We abandoned, when possible, the old "Assembly Line" production model where the production line was separated into several distinct activities and the product would move from one stage to the next. Each stage would have someone different adding to the product's development. While this, in theory, should add to the efficiency of the manufacturing cycle, it also created a loss of accountability and creativity.
We found that by conducting extensive training so that every shop floor person on the line could do a tank from start to finish, that that person would be more challenged and that accountability could be traced. We found that by doing so, a certain pride and passion went into the work. This creates a tank that is less about production and more about craftsmanship.
Since the introduction of this new production model, the quality of our utility tank products has improved substantially. In addition, the people working on the tanks have found their work more enjoyable and exciting.
This strict accountability provides us with unsurpassed quality.
